Meet the People Behind Soapstone

Dominique Smith, MD, FACOG

Principal Invesitigator

Dr. Smith is board certified and a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Mo. She completed her internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, IL. and her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbus Cabrini Medical Center, Chicago, IL. She has been a Principal Investigator in multiple clinical trials related to improving the healthcare of women. Dr. Smith has been a strong advocate for lifestyle changes in the management of healthcare issues afflicting women.


Sonya Marks, MD, FACOG

Principal Investigator

Dr. Marks is board certified and a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her undergraduate degree from Spelman College, Atlanta, GA. She received her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine, Little Rock, AR. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, IL. Dr. Marks has been both a Sub-Investigator and Principal Investigator for numerous clinical trials related to Women’s Health.


Jennifer Freeman, MD, FACOG


Dr. Freeman is board certified and a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a graduate of the Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia. Her Internship and residency were completed at Boston City Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. She has a special interest in bleeding disorders that particularly manifest as problems in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She keeps abreast of the latest emerging technologies in noninvasive genetic diagnosis that are relevant to the practice of obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Freeman is affiliated with Emory University Hospital Midtown and WellStar Atlanta Medical Center.


Natalie Hinton

Clinical Research Coordinator

Natalie Hinton received her Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia. She has worked in women’s health care for greater than 30 years and specifically clinical research as our Senior Clinical Research Coordinator for more than 15 years. She has personally trained and coordinated the activities of other research coordinators in the greater Metro Atlanta area. Clinical Research Associates have used our research center for training other CRAs due to her impeccable attention to designing and completion of source documents/case report forms. She has handled the administrative activities generally associated with the conduction of well over 50 clinical trials. She is a member of SOCRA (Society of Clinical Research Associates) and ACRP (Association of Clinical Research Professionals). .



LaVerne Enrique-Lofton

Women's Health Nurse / Clinical Research Coordinator / Sub-Investigator

LaVerne Enrique-Lofton is a certified Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. She attended Boston University and the Emory Regional Training Center. Nurse Lofton worked in the public health sector for over 7 years. She has served as the Breast and Cervical Cancer Coordinator and Adolescent Health Clinic Coordinator in Fulton and Dekalb Counties, respectively. Nurse Lofton is a member of the Society for Clinical Research Associates. Currently, she is the nurse practitioner. and the sub-investigator for Soapstone Center for Clinical Research.


Demetrica Rumph

Clinical Research Coordinator

Demetrica Rumph received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Morris Brown College, Atlanta, Georgia. Demetrica has worked in women’s healthcare for greater than 21 years. With her passion for education and teaching she decided to use both attributes, by teaching in the public school system in Georgia for 13 years as well as coordinating the training of Medical Assistant students. In addition to her work as a clinical research coordinator, she is a tenured Math professor at Georgia Piedmont Technical College, Clarkston, Georgia


Sarah Holmes

Budget and Regulatory Executive Administrator

Sarah Holmes has been in healthcare for over 33 years on the Administrative level, and as a Budget and Regulatory Administrator in clinical research for over 17 years. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Southern Wesleyan University and a Master of Arts in Leadership from Luther Rice University. She was conferred with the title of Certified Medical Manager in 1999, Healthcare Compliance Officer in 2002, Certified Practice Manager in 2008, HIPPA Compliance Specialist in 2008, and Certified Coding Specialist in 2008. She was appointed for 5 years as President of PAHCOM (Professional Association Healthcare Office Management) in 2011. Sarah has been honored twice as Practice Manger of the Year and selected as a member of Who’s Who of Professional Business Women. In addition to her responsibilities as the Budget and Regulatory administrator, she is a consultant for medical practices and teaches Office Practice Management on the graduate level.
